Eden V takes a bright view of large windows and sunshine

While spending time at home, extra rays of sunshine can be a difference-maker. It elevates the mood of the space while eliminating the need to use indoor lighting.

The main floor typically gathers natural light from windows at the front and back of the home. But sometimes there’s an additional source that help leverage those sunny days even further.

Shane Homes achieves this in its Eden V paired home. This 1,587-square-foot model is demonstrated as a show home in the northeast Calgary community of Cornerstone.

Featuring a Modern Arts and Crafts exterior elevation with a neighbourly front veranda, it has three bedrooms on the second storey, and 2.5 bathrooms.

A substantial window in the soaring open-to-above stairwell enhances the spread of sunlight on the open-concept main level. Large windows in the great room and rear-facing kitchen — in addition to supplementary windows on a side wall — contribute to creating bright spaces, as well.

Another benefit to the large window in the kitchen is a clear view of the backyard. This makes it easy for a parent to keep an eye on their children playing outside as they put the finishing touches on preparing dinner.

The kitchen stars a generously proportioned quartz island with a sink and an eating bar that seats at least four people. It also boasts a spacious set of cabinets and drawers, tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances, including an over-the-range hoodfan. A bulkhead is used to add to the visual interest of the kitchen features.

The main floor also includes a central dining area and front-facing 12-foot six inch by 14-foot two inch great room. As seen in the show home, this gathering space is large enough for multiple seating options and a coffee table.

This model offers a side entrance with direct access to the basement. This is useful for homeowners who decide to use their basement for a rental tenant as a way to offset mortgage payments.

Both the foyer and mudroom are bright and well-sized creating welcoming and comfortable spaces in which to enter the home.

On the second level, the master bedroom is front-facing and its two secondary bedrooms are positioned side-by-side along the back wall. This separation creates a layer of privacy.

Measuring 12 feet 11 inches by 14 feet seven inches, the proportions of the master bedroom are comparable to what one would find in single-family home.

It’s accompanied by a spacious walk-in closet accessed on one wall and an ensuite accessed from another.

While the secondary bedrooms are similar in size, the slightly larger space includes a walk-in closet.

A laundry area, closed off by french doors, is centrally located on the second floor. This makes it easy for all occupants of the home to both drop off dirty laundry and pick up a clean load.
