Twin communities find all that Okotoks can offer in Wedderburn and D’ARCY

They may not exactly be identical twins, but the two new communities of Wedderburn and D’ARCY in Okotoks offer the similarities that count.

Both developed by Anthem United, these two young communities straddle Highway 2A in the northern tip of Okotoks. Both offer the kind of small town living that Okotoks is famous for, and Anthem United’s trusted, family-oriented design makes them an affordable, amenity-rich alternative to buying a home in Calgary.

“People are drawn to Okotoks for its distinct character and picturesque location,” says Anthem United’s Manager of Marketing, Megan Starke. “There is strong community spirit, ample local amenities and direct access to the mountains. It is also a very short drive to Calgary for those who work in the city. People can see themselves living here.”

Both Wedderburn and D’ARCY offer majestic views of the Rockies, lush nature at their doorstep with winding river walking paths and biking trails, and an undeniable small town charm that shines through even as the communities continue to grow.

“Wedderburn is in its first phase of development and D’ARCY is in its second phase,” Starke says.

“We are seeing a mix of buyers from both Calgary and Okotoks. Buyers who move from Calgary fall in love with the town and buyers from Okotoks are already sold on the lifestyle and want to stay here.”

Although Wedderburn and D’ARCY have similar products, where the two communities differ is in the size and style of homes they offer. Wedderburn offers larger lots and both communities feature distinct architectural stylings.

They will share Gateway Village — a mixed-use retail/commercial/office in the heart of the development at the entrance to Okotoks. Gateway Village is being developed by Anthem United’s sister company, Anthem Properties, and is expected to open with a grocery store in the next two years.

Wedderburn is a 160-acre subdivision, just 15 minutes from Calgary. Once fully developed, the community will be home to over 1,200 residents, a school and a central park.

Wedderburn is named after one of Okotoks’ storied farming families who once owned this the pristine land in the northern part of town. The community is envisioned to bring together southern Alberta’s small town charms with a modern community fit for the future.

The first show homes from Trico Homes, Prominent Homes and Sterling Homes opened in May to terrific acclaim. All are front-drive homes on 40- to 48-foot wide lots, some of the widest to be found in Okotoks or even Calgary.

Architectural styles include a mixture of Craftsman, Modern Farmhouse, Tudor and French Country. Two storey homes, and bungalows are available. Prices are from the $400,000s.

“Wedderburn offers bungalows on amenity lots overlooking the pond, lots backing on to green space and lots with mountain views in the first phase. There is a growing demand for bungalows and Wedderburn is getting lots of positive feedback because of this,” Starke says.

As D’ARCY embarks on its second phase of development, builders will be introducing new home styles to the auspiciously located property on the north end of Okotoks, bordering the D’Arcy Ranch golf course to the west and Northridge Drive to the east, with breath taking views of the Rocky Mountains.

D’ARCY — also named after a long-time farming family from the town – sits on 280 acres of prime real estate connected by a network of pathways. “This is what makes D’ARCY unique, as it will be a place that gives its residents a chance to connect,” Starke says. “We firmly believe in the adage ‘it’s not where you live, it’s how you live’ and D’ARCY is fully designed to tie in with Okotoks’ relaxed, family- friendly lifestyle.”

With lush green spaces, plans for two new schools, community spaces and easy access to the golf course, D’ARCY is a community designed for today’s family with a vision that pays homage to the town’s past.

D’ARCY’s home styles are as individual yet complementing as the native plants and flowers that dot the meadows of the Sheep River Valley. Buyers can choose from paired homes and laned homes – products exclusive to D’ARCY in the Okotoks area – as well as no-condo-fee townhomes, front drive homes and villas.

Morrison Homes, Pacesetter by Sterling Homes and Trico Homes were the first three builders to have opened show homes in D’ARCY. Morrison Homes offers paired homes and some of the most captivating villas around. Partners Development Group joined the community in April with its ARRIVE D’ARCY condo-fee-free townhomes.

“Anthem is very invested in the growth of Okotoks. We feel the community spirit and see how people fall in love with it. It offers residents big city amenities without the hustle and bustle of being in the city,”

The front drive homes from Trico Homes and Pacesetter by Sterling Homes promise to be the epitome of the family move-up home with four-bedroom models available, as well as walk-out lots.

“Paired homes continue to be the most popular home style in D’ARCY. We also offer bungalows and lots with mountain views in D’ARCY, which have been quite popular,” Starke says.

Over 70 families already call D’ARCY home, and the playground and storm pond are fully landscaped and open for everyone to enjoy. A new skating rink will open this winter.

Both Wedderburn and D’ARCY are just the latest in Anthem United’s long association with the town, where they had also developed Drake Landing.

“Anthem is very invested in the growth of Okotoks. We feel the community spirit and see how people fall in love with it. It offers residents big city amenities without the hustle and bustle of being in the city,” says Starke.

“Okotoks is known for its small town charm, yet it has many big name stores (like Costco) just a short drive from Wedderburn and D’ARCY. Many people who work in South Calgary prefer Okotoks over Airdrie and Cochrane because the commute is often shorter,” she adds.
