With every square inch of their Somerset home either updated or renovated, Jason and Christene Morris felt they’d maxed out its resale value. They were ready to move on to something new, but with two kids entrenched in the neighbourhood, they didn’t want to go far afield. The new community of Belmont, south of 194th Avenue, was a logical choice for a new home.
It was Christene, who works at the Sobeys in Silverado, who noticed the “now open” signs for show homes down the road in Belmont by Anthem United. It prompted a family visit.
“We looked at all the builder’s show homes. Trico Homes, Homes by Avi, Shane Homes and Cedarglen Homes. After we looked at the (second-last show home), Christene didn’t want to look at anymore. She was done. And I said, c’mon, let’s go look at the last one, which was the Cedarglen model,” says Jason, an infrastructure manager for an accounting and finance firm.
“Sure enough, that was the one we fell in love with.”
Cedarglen’s show home is the Coronation 24 front-drive, two-storey model with 2,038 square feet. It was the striking open concept that captured the Morrises’ imagination as soon as they opened the door.
“We’re family people. We love entertaining and found that in Somerset, we didn’t have a whole lot of space and with this one — we walked in and basically looked at other because we could just imagine the Christmas dinners we could have here. It felt like home,” Jason says.
Adding to the wow factor were the Coronation’s floor to ceiling windows at the back of home combined with nine-foot ceilings. Christene says when they sat down to make an offer, they told their sales representative, Ryan Christensen, that they wanted their home to be exactly like the show home.
“Same colours, same carpet, same laminate flooring,” Jason says.
“We did upgrade appliances to a double oven and gas cooktop. We have the end-all-be-all dream kitchen,” Christene adds.
The Coronation has an interesting stair feature at the front entrance that Jason says even contractors have favourably noticed.
“As you come in the front door, you go up two steps to the main landing then down the other side into the great room. The stairs to the second level are on your immediate right on that landing. It’s such a unique way to come into a home. It breaks up the hallway just enough so you’re not looking straight into the great room,” Jason says.
As one of the first buyers in Belmont, they were able to choose a west-facing lot backing onto the large playground.
“It was lot No. 20 — Ryan’s favourite lot. We have a beautiful view of the mountains and of course, the playground. We feel super lucky we got it,” says Christene.
Christensen is Cedarglen’s area manager for Belmont and says the Morris family, who moved into their home on July 12, are in the west end of the community where the playground has become a landmark. The land west of Sheriff King Street, which runs parallel with Macleod Trail, is currently open pasture and rolling foothills, so the views are “phenomenal.”
“We have a myriad of lots available in phases 1 and 2, with orientations and amenities that would please most buyers,” he says.
The Coronation 24 starts in the $440,000s and is also available as a 26-foot model. Although popular with the Morris family, Christensen says Cedarglen’s Carbon floor plan has been the builder’s top seller, mostly due to a highly flexible floor plan and the ability to add a main floor bedroom. Cedarglen’s Champion single-family model, priced from the $460,000s, comes with a finished basement.
Many of Belmont’s future amenities, like green spaces, schools, future retail, a recreation centre and LRT expansion, are still on paper. Because potential buyers have to use their imagination when envisioning the community, result, Christensen says buyers in Belmont are taking advantage of what he calls “pre-amenity pricing” with the promise of future equity as the community flourishes.
Which is exactly what Jason and Christene are counting on.
“We have great neighbours and this community is just betting better and better,” Christene says.
