  • Eric Carlson
    Core Founder and CEO

    Eric is the founder and CEO of Anthem Properties, and CEO of Anthem United. Highly engaged in the daily operations of the company, he is responsible for the strategic direction and overall execution of all aspects of the business.

    Working closely with the leadership team, he provides (relentless) oversight and direction for acquisitions, design, development and finance. Showing up every day for 26 years, he is fuelled by the passion and pursuit of creating original spaces and building strong communities.

  • David Ragland
    Vice President, Land and Development, Sacramento

    David provides key oversight and management of the acquisition and entitlement efforts of Anthem United’s projects in California, as well as the residential home building operation. With over 20 years of experience, he has established himself as a leader in the industry and has extensive expertise in Northern California development.  In his spare time, is serves on the Board of Directors for HomeAid, and according to his team in Sacramento, he is a perfectionist.  If a light switch cover is 1/16 off center, count on David to notice.

  • Peter Cavanagh
    Senior Vice President, Alberta Land Development

    As the Senior Vice President of Alberta Land Development, Peter is responsible for all land development activities of Anthem United in Alberta. Part of the core team since 1997, he has held several positions within the company including Development Manager and General Manager. He enjoys the creative aspects of planning projects from the early stages to their evolution over time. Reacting to the shifting realities of projects is both a challenging and highly enjoyable experience for Peter.

  • Calvin Chan
    Vice President, Financial Operations, Calgary

    Calvin is a chartered accountant and oversees all financial reporting, treasury, insurance, corporate affairs and People resources for the Calgary, Edmonton and Sacramento divisions of Anthem United. He was the first new hire following Anthem’s acquisition of United Communities three years ago and has an extensive 15 year background in the real estate development industry. An avid hockey fan, he holds dear the dream of one day becoming the President or GM of Anthem’s future NHL expansion franchise. We support this rather ambitious dream.

    Manager, Sales and Marketing, Edmonton

    Simona manages the marketing department of our Edmonton office, including community brand development, print/online advertising, website development, signage and events. She is energized by the people she works with and the diversity/challenge of her role. Each day is different from the next, presenting unique and exciting challenges. A lover of the outdoors, she spends her off time camping and hiking in the backcountry of BC and Alberta.

  • Paul Simpson
    CFO, Calgary

    As CFO, Paul oversees all things finance at Anthem United. Having been with the company since late 1992, he has held his current position for nearly 20 years. His favorite part of the role is seeing first-hand the process of developing projects from concept into the reality of living, breathing communities. Little did we know, Paul is a trained classical pianist and is known to throw down some Mozart on occasion.

  • Gerry Barron
    Senior Development Manager, Calgary

    Gerry is a Senior Development Manager, leading the charge on development projects and providing key oversight on land acquisitions and municipal approvals. With the company for 26 years, he favours the design and creation of new communities and the complexities of structuring real estate deals.  He’s also affectionately known as the office historian.  In his off time, Gerry prefers to ski—on water during summer and snow during winter.

  • Bob Faktor
    Senior Development Manager, Calgary

    Working together with the other members of the development team, Bob’s expertise is in sourcing and pursuing acquisitions, navigating projects through the approval/entitlement process and oversight of the planning development, construction and sales aspects of Anthem United projects in the Calgary region. Celebrating his 15th anniversary in 2017, he enjoys the cohesive team spirit and agile nature of the company. Bob is known to decompress through the art of fly fishing.

    Senior Development Manager, Calgary

    As Senior Development Manager, Paul handles acquisition, entitlement, construction and sale of projects across Alberta.  With over 12 years of tenure, he is a well-established member of the Anthem United team. He is inspired daily by the multidisciplinary approach and entrepreneurial spirit of the company. When he is not overseeing development projects, he is a proud board member of two non-profit organizations—Delta Waterfowl and ALUS Canada.

    Manager, Corporate Accounting, Calgary

    Responsible for financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and special projects, Nicholas is a manager in the corporate accounting department at Anthem United’s Calgary office. With just over two years at the company, he is motivated daily by the passion of his colleagues and strong team atmosphere. He is an avid traveler and global citizen.

    Development Manager, Edmonton

    As Development Manager, Joe works closely with our Edmonton-based development team to develop project plans, produce detailed drawings and manage the approval, financing, construction, sales and maintenance aspects of projects. With the company for over 9 years, his favorite part of the role is being involved in creating a legacy within the City of Edmonton. An avid hockey fan, he enjoys collecting autographed cards and memorabilia.

    Director, Real Estate Finance, Calgary

    As a key member of the Anthem United finance team in the Calgary office, Trevor is responsible for sourcing debt and equity and building financial models for new projects. He has been part of the Anthem United team for 9 years, and carries extensive industry experience. He has the rare ability to distill a complicated pile of data into a comprehensive and easy-to-understand analysis. A lover of travel, Trevor has been to 23 countries and counting.

  • Shannon McKenna
    Controller, Development Accounting, Calgary

    Shannon has been with Anthem United’s Calgary office for 27 years.  She oversees the accounting land team, and is in charge of preparing the divisional project forecasts.  She has been involved with the development of more than 20 communities in the Calgary region.  Despite the fact she’s a seasoned pro, she still looks forward to the new challenges her position offers.  When she’s not at work, Shannon has another full time job at home, looking after three amazing teenagers.

    Controller, Development Accounting, Edmonton

    Angele has been working at Anthem United for 27 years.  She is responsible for preparing the monthly financial statements and monthly cash flow for the Edmonton office.  In that time, Angele says she has seen the markets go up and the markets go down, and she is proud that Anthem United continues to be so successful.

    When she’s not at work, she’s often sees double.  Not only does Angele have an identical twin sister, she and her husband have twin (fraternal) daughters.

    Director, Sales and Marketing, Calgary

    As Sales and Marketing Director, Steven develops and executes sales and marketing strategies in the Calgary region. With a unique vision for community building, Steven is able to develop lasting relationships and create meaningful connections with builder partners throughout the sales and development process. He enjoys the diversity and challenges that encompass his role at Anthem United, which he has held for over 5 years. Away from the office, Steven is a volunteer board member at Kids Up Front, a non-profit group that provides children with otherwise inaccessible life-enhancing experiences.

    Project Manager, Sacramento

    As manager of land acquisitions & entitlements, Brendan finds land and converts property into incredible places to live, work and play. He’s a rare breed who loves the work and the people he encounters along the way.

    Brendan is on a lifelong crusade in California, driven by an insatiable fascination with the experience of place, the delicate challenges of the public forum, and the financial complexities inherent to the real estate development game. This spirit propels his self-determined quest to lead Anthem United Sacramento into the urban core.

    Director, Sales and Marketing, Sacramento

    Dan is responsible for creating a remarkable customer experience for our home buyers in California. A recent addition to the team, he holds the Director of Sales & Marketing position at Anthem United. His desire to join the team was fueled by the strong company culture and vision for the future. When not immersed in real estate development, Dan is an avid motocross racer and lives on a ranch with 10 horses, eight cows, 7 chickens, three dogs and two cats.

    Director, Operations, Sacramento

    As Director of Operations for our California team, Matt provides oversight and management of the operational aspects of home building, including design development, purchasing, construction and warranty. With the company for over 5 years, Matt thrives on the team atmosphere and is motivated daily by his colleagues. He enjoys being part of building the best homes in Sacramento. In his off time, he coaches a softball and basketball team.

    As Marketing Manager, Monica handles all aspects of driving traffic and sales to Anthem United communities in California. As a new member of the team, she is energized and motivated by the working culture of the company—working together to achieve their collective goals and having a great time doing it. Though her work persona is unfailing gregarious and extroverted, she tells us she is very shy person.

  • Patrick Hanafee
    Project Manager, Sacramento

    Patrick is responsible for the overall management of the projects in California.  This includes obtaining the proper permits from three levels of government, making presentations to different agencies, formulating strategies and conducting complex negotiations, all in a timely manner.   If you are wondering if he’s capable of completing all of that, take note, Patrick has an identical twin.  Hmmm….

  • Kevin Sheley
    Manager, Construction, Sacramento

    Kevin provides key oversight for all construction operations for Anthem United’s California division. In addition to managing construction activities, he is also responsible for managing the customer service that interfaces with customers on a daily basis. He is constantly challenged, engaged and excited by working with a group of strong performers. Although he has successfully managed construction of over a thousand homes with budgets in the millions, building a tree fort for his kids seems to be a level of complexity that is just outside his skillset.

    Manager, Development, Sacramento

    Russ works within the California development team as Development Manager. He is responsible for contracting and managing all land development and construction activities at Anthem United. Holding the position for almost 3 years, collaboration with his talented colleagues is what drives him to succeed each day. For better or worse, he is a die-hard 49ers and Giants fan. We keep a steady supply of kleenex in the office, given this simple fact.

    As Development Director, Steve is responsible for engineering, design and site development activities for Anthem United’s Northern California projects. With the company for 3 years, he loves the team atmosphere and the talented and passionate people that he works with. His licensure as a Civil Engineer gives him a unique perspective and valued insight into the company’s development projects.

    Manager, Land Acquisition and Disposition, Sacramento

    As Land Acquisition Manager, Todd handles sourcing new land acquisition opportunities for both land development and homebuilding operations in California. He is also responsible for project feasibility, due diligence, land disposition and overall project management. A new member of the team, he thrives on being surrounded by highly talented people, the overall team approach to projects and the “good enough never is” approach to customer service. A keen family man, Todd is the proud father of twins.

    Director, Finance and Accounting, Sacramento

    Brian is the Director of Finance and Accounting for Anthem United in California. His core responsibility is the acquisition of finances and allocation of funds, and the associated reporting/tracking thereof. A strong proponent and instigator of Anthem United company culture, his favorite part of the job is the camaraderie and strong team atmosphere. And despite his best efforts to hide his people and IT skills, his co-workers know where to find him when they have an issue.

    Controller, Sacramento

    Shuaib is the Division Controller for Accounting for Anthem United Homes in Sacramento.  Fairly new to the company, Shuaib has been in the homebuilding and accounting industry for 7 years, and says he loves working with “the very smart and driven people” at Anthem United.
    He hails from Chicago and was determined not only to move to Sacramento recently, but also to make it his personal goal to compete in the California International Marathon next December.  We’ll let you know how he does!
